Do You Qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance?

Do You Qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance?

Do You Qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance?

According to the CDC website (2019), 33.5% of adults have some type of disability in the state of Mississippi. If you have a disability and have worked long enough, as well as paid Social Security taxes, then you may be eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance. This means that you and certain eligible members of your family would receive payments through the federal program.

In order to be eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance, you must meet a set of basic requirements that have been put in place by the Social Security Administration. Those requirements are:

  • You must have worked in a job or jobs covered by Social Security
  • You must have a medical condition that meets Social Security’s definition of disability

If you meet those criteria and have been denied a claim that is where you will want to involve an attorney. You have the right to appeal any decision made by the Social Security Administration. Our firm understands Mississippi’s Disability Determination Services agency’s policies and can talk with you on a personal level to examine your claim. You can then start the process which includes three stages, including an application, a reconsideration and a hearing.

There are many reasons your claim could be denied. For example, you may be denied if your income exceeds the limitations or it could be something as simple as an error on your application. We will be able to look over your claim and make sure everything is in order to get you the best outcome possible. Dealing with a denied claim for you or a loved one can be a big hassle and cause a lot of headaches. Having a knowledgeable and experienced attorney representing you can make a significant difference in the outcome of your claim and ease the burden of stress caused by the denied claim.

Social Security Disability Insurance claims can also be made by family members if the incident resulted in death. Those insurance benefits may be payable to children or the widowed. If you think you may have a claim in a situation like this, speak with an attorney.
